Biography
Diana Mercado-Champion is a passionate advocate with experience in civil litigation, immigration, criminal, and civil rights law. Diana earned a J.D. from the Texas University A&M School of Law. There, she worked as a research assistant focused on dissecting local and state laws that affect immigrants. She further studied and analyzed the reintegration challenges encountered by deported Mexican immigrants. As the Managing Editor for the Journal of Property of Law and a State Bar Qualified Law Student in the Civil Rights Clinic, Diana refined her legal research and writing skills as well as client communication and engagement.
Diana’s work spans the full spectrum of immigration law. The matter types include non-immigrant visas (H, O, T, U, and TPS), family-based permanent resident applications (I-130s, I-601A waivers, and I-485s), bond proceedings, and removal defense (asylum, cancellation of removal, administrative closure, and I-485s).
On the corporate litigation side, Diana is familiar with pre-trial proceedings such as demands, discovery, and settlement agreements or default judgments. Further, Diana has experience with judgment enforcement.
Diana strongly believes the law should be accessible and volunteers at various legal clinic events. Outside of work, Diana enjoys cooking or trying new foods, listening to music, practicing yoga, and spending time with her spouse and family.
Why do I practice corporate law?
The ability to create and enforce contracts is a staple of the American Legal System. A dispute between businesses or employers and employees can be emotionally taxing. Like a puzzle, the issues in a corporate dispute can largely be complex and time consuming—making it impossible for the average business person to navigate. When a promise made to our client is not kept, I strive to alleviate some of their stress and ensure they get a fair result.

Why do I practice U.S. immigration law?
As the daughter of immigrants, I have always been surrounded by immigrants. The immigrant community is lively, loving, hardworking, prosperous, and determined. I’ve seen and experienced firsthand the struggle many endure to stabilize their legal status. Even when an individual has stable legal status, navigating the U.S. legal systems is challenging—especially for those with a language barrier. I strive to be a resource for the immigrant community that cared for me.
